Prototypes of the U-slot patch antennas with reduced SCS and a reference antenna are fabricated. The experimental results show that a maximum in-band SCS reduction of 26 dB has been achieved with the proposed approach. U-Slot Patch Antenna Principle and Design Methodology Using Characteristic Mode Analysis and Coupled Mode Theory. Abstract: Patch antennas incorporating a U-shaped slot are well-known to have relatively large (about 30%) impedance bandwidths.

This work uses Characteristic Mode Analysis to explain the impedance behavior of a classic U-slot patch geometry in terms of Coupled Mode Theory and shows the relevant modes are in-phase and anti-phase coupled modes whose resonant frequencies are governed by Coupled Mode Theory.

A U-slot-loaded microstrip antenna is under consideration for Wi-Fi applications. On the micro strip patch antenna, the patch is flared on the four sides with the fractal curves. Then a U-slot is inserted. For parametric analysis, the fractal depth and the U-curve's length and width are modified. The main parameter used is resonant frequency.

This paper presents a design, maximization, and simulation of a dual-band amended U-slot microstrip patch antenna for WiMAX/WLAN application. This article introduces a characteristic mode analysis (CMA) based broadband and high gain microstrip patch antenna by embedding U-slot into an E-shaped patch in a single-layer radiating structure. The design and analysis of the antenna utilize the CMA to obtain the inherent modal currents induced in the E-shaped radiator.

The U-slot (y) and rectangular slot (y s) position from the feed point axis is selected as 0.233 W and 0.169 W, respectively. The U-slot and rectangular slot width is taken as 0.053 W and the coaxial feed is placed at distance of 0.24L from the open circuit patch edge, present inside the U-slot area.
